Flex Gotcha #2859 - Datagrids/List-Based Controls and Recycling

Let's imagine that you, for some reason, have a datagrid with 1000 rows. Lets also say that there's a few itemRenderers in there as well that change based on the data for that row.

Well, you might become a bit frustrated to find out that as you scroll through your massive list of items, it will seem like items are getting recycled. You couldn't be more correct.

A Comparison of Flex and Silverlight

A very non-biased overview of both platforms...(attached).

Holy Crap Adobe! Learn Flex in a week? For Free?

Wow, Adobe - nice work on this. I just came across this and felt the need to share it.

Adobe has posted damn near 100 videos ranging from 2 minutes to 45 minutes on their website, with the intention of teaching you Flex in about a week (so they say).

You can download the videos using AMP (Adobe Media Player) and watch them offline, or stream them on their website. The narrators on the ones I've viewed are slightly less boring than you would normally hear, so that's a plus.

Check em out!

New site is on teh internets.

oh hai. after a LOT of procrastination, i'm finally going to do my duty as web officer and get us a new, pretty, unique site.

ill be chipping away at it piece by piece. im currently working on a leaderboard application to track all of you FUGGER's points (our pet name for all you CIFUG attendees). we'll use these points to give out all the free goodies that adobe offers us...you only win if you are present, so make sure you get to meetings...

again, meetings are the 3rd thursday of every month.

To Framework, or not to Framework -- that is the question.

In which instances do any of you out there use a framework for any of your Flex/AIR apps? There's always Cairngorm, but what about others such as Model-Glue: Flex, and pureMVC? Model-Glue: Flex shows some promise in that it provides a lot of functionality without the potential steep learning curve that comes along with Cairngorm (and without the goofy name - *with apologies to Steven Webster - you're still one of my idols *).

I'd love to see your thoughts, opinions, and ramblings. And if you don't use a framework at all...why not?
