Holy Crap Adobe! Learn Flex in a week? For Free?
Wow, Adobe - nice work on this. I just came across this and felt the need to share it.
Adobe has posted damn near 100 videos ranging from 2 minutes to 45 minutes on their website, with the intention of teaching you Flex in about a week (so they say).
You can download the videos using AMP (Adobe Media Player) and watch them offline, or stream them on their website. The narrators on the ones I've viewed are slightly less boring than you would normally hear, so that's a plus.
Check em out!
Flex Newbie? l33t Flex Coder? Either way, we're offering FREE Flex classes. (First class is Thursday, November 13th)
We're going to hold a few Flex workshops. For Free. Nada. Nothing.
The hour-and-a-half classes will start off very basic and more than likely not get TOO advanced, but they will not be in any way boring.
Due to some scheduling conflicts, the first class will be held on the SECOND THURSDAY of the month, on November 13th.
New site is on teh internets.
oh hai. after a LOT of procrastination, i'm finally going to do my duty as web officer and get us a new, pretty, unique site.
ill be chipping away at it piece by piece. im currently working on a leaderboard application to track all of you FUGGER's points (our pet name for all you CIFUG attendees). we'll use these points to give out all the free goodies that adobe offers us...you only win if you are present, so make sure you get to meetings...
again, meetings are the 3rd thursday of every month.
Frameworks, Companies, and other Notes from Flex Meeting #3
CIFUG Meeting #3 was Meeting #1 for me. It was pretty exciting with $2,100 of Adobe money being given away to a lucky winner (Jay!) who can buy anything from Adobe with it. Plus tons of swag including a lovely Adobe touque (that is Canadian for "beanie" or "wool, knitted cap").
I am new to Flex, so I learned a lot from the discussions of everyone else.

Flex 3.0 Concerns: A review of a proprietary, monopolistic, closed-source, gorgeous Adobe product
I just started working for Siemens PLM Software in Ames, IA. The primary project I was brought on to help develop is using Flex. Before I dedicated months of my life to a project, I really wanted to be sure I could support using a proprietary, monopolistic, closed-source project like Flex. So I did some research...
- How are we going to find future developers to work on Flex? Is there a market and does anyone else use Flex?
- What if Adobe discontinues support for Flex because of lack of interest or financial issues?
