Great 3rd meeting!!
Even though we had to sneak into the building and even though the door wasn't open to the computer lab, we had a great meeting in the noisy break room of some wacked building in Des Moines!
Lot's of stuff to give away and a good turnout! Our software raffle winner went to Jay, so congrats to him! Plus we had tshirts and plenty of books for people to check out. Joshua was our speaker for the night and he discussed 4 main points regarding why Flex is the right choice even when it might seem like the deck is stacked against it.
I'll let him post his words on the topic...
Super SPAM
For those of you watching at home, CIFUG went down today. We had
over 1000 spam forum entries and for some reason the site was mildly
reset to base config.
SO. After backing up all the data (including the spam) I've updated
to Drupal 6.2.
I'm in the process of deleting the forum entries now.
That's what I get for letting anonymous "people" submit forum entries
and comments. I thought I was being so free-spirited.
le sigh. le boo-hoo
AIR Developers have a chance to shine
As part of the Adobe Air Tour Stockholm (http://onair.adobe.com/schedule/cities/stockholm.php) we launched a competition yesterday dubbed the "Adobe Air Browser War", where we encouraged the Adobe Air tour participants to develop a concept web browser using the Adobe Air APIs only.
The website http://www.airbrowserwar.com has all the competition details and the dead line is set to 25th of June, giving everyone enough time to cook something up.
Here are the APIs to get you started:

To Framework, or not to Framework -- that is the question.
In which instances do any of you out there use a framework for any of your Flex/AIR apps? There's always Cairngorm, but what about others such as Model-Glue: Flex, and pureMVC? Model-Glue: Flex shows some promise in that it provides a lot of functionality without the potential steep learning curve that comes along with Cairngorm (and without the goofy name - *with apologies to Steven Webster - you're still one of my idols *).
I'd love to see your thoughts, opinions, and ramblings. And if you don't use a framework at all...why not?
Kasey
Will you be attending the meeting on Thursday May 1st at the New Horizons Learning Center in Urbandale?
1st meeting - lame venue, good conversation
We had our first meeting last night at the Ankeny Public Library. The room was dingy and there was hardly a wireless connection. We did, however, have great attendance and good times talking about where we want this group to go. Summarized below:
- We want this to be primarily an advocacy group for Flex but also for all Adobe products
- We want people to enjoy coming and learn from their peers
- Thursdays work a lot better than Mondays (looks like I need to find a babysitter!)
- Jay will be our next guest speaker since he's going to visit Adobe within the next month
Flex 3 and AIR are now available
Are you coming to the first CIFUG meeting?
